Add Google Tag Manager to your site
A Google Tag Manager container. Loads only after marketing consent. A container can load any script, so turning it on relaxes your site's script policy to all HTTPS sources.
Updated 2026-11-02
01What it does
- Every page of the published site (head tag, consent-gated)
02What you need
- Container ID
03Connect it
- In Google Tag Manager, create a Web container for your site.
- Copy the container ID (GTM-XXXXXXX) from the workspace header.
- In Studio → ⋯ → Widgets → Google Tag Manager, switch it on.
- Paste it into "Container ID".
- Save, then Publish — widgets go live with your next publish, not before.
04Check it works
- Open the LIVE site in a private window and accept marketing cookies — the tag only loads after consent, never in the Studio preview.
- Use GTM's Preview mode against your live URL and confirm the container fires.
05If it does not work
- Tags inside GTM never fire — Nothing loads until the visitor accepts marketing cookies — that includes every tag in the container.
- GA4 counts every visit twice — GA4 is set both here and inside GTM. Keep one.
